The nice thing about WordPress.com

WordPress.com 3 Million Blogs

I’ve just upgraded a bunch of blogs from WordPress 2.71 to WordPress 2.8. It’s not that it’s a particularly onerous task, but there’s always that feeling that something may go wrong and you have to go back to backups. So it was nice to come to WordPress.com and find one blog that didn’t need upgrading.

I did set up this blog to see what’s going on down at WordPress.com and it’s nice to see some of the plugins that are available, as well as new features as soon as they are available to the outside world. Sometimes new software makes you want to hit it over the head with your golf clubs, but so far it’s just been great working with WordPress; new releases bring new features. I’ve deployed numerous sites with it and always had a good experience.

Still playing with WordPress.com

I’m still playing with this blog on WordPress.com and it’s interesting to see that the blog is also receiving spam, even though there are hardly any visitors coming to it. I suppose that bots don’t really care if it’s a popular blog or now, as long as a script can find it, it’s valid. Some of the comments can be interesting, but for example NLF products don’t really apply to me; it it was something more UK oriented, it might make a bit more of an impression.

Still, it’s an interesting experience to see what you can and what you can’t do on WordPress.com. I wish there was some way to add Javascript to the sidebar widgets. That way I could add my TweetRoll.
